"Each night he added to the pattern of his fancies until drowsiness closed down upon some vivid scene with an oblivious embrace. For a while these reveries provided an outlet for his imagination; they were a satisfactory hint of the unreality of reality, a promise that the rock of the world was founded securely on a fairy's wing" (105).
--The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
We are nearly done with our unit on The Great Gatsby in my english class, and today we were having our second book chat (discussion) when Maria pointed out this quote (from "they were a satisfactory..." to "...on a fairy's wing") to me. She said she thinks it is absolutely lovely, and I must agree. I can't truly explain what I love so much about it, but.. I realy do love it. What do you think?
Well, it has been officially 24 hours since I woke up. I took a nap right after school yesterday because I knew I wouldn't get much sleep, if any at all. I slept for about an hour, and was up again by five, flexing my procrastination muscles. I finally started on my homework around ten, and finished about a page before I started ignoring it and talking a lot to people on aim. This went on until around two or something, when most of the people had signed off, and I decided I really needed to start working.
I worked almost straight on until morning (hee, Peter Pan XD) and was this close! to finishing my english project. Oh well.. I was really dreading doing the mini essay at the end, and that part's only worth ten points that he forgot about last time anyway, so I'm not too scared about it. I finished my chemistry project, a comic of exactly twenty frames involving evil!potassium, super-hero!calcium, victim-that-turns-out-to-be-enemy's-worst-nightmare!chlorine, king!helium, and messenger!hydrogen. I'm really proud of it, actually. I learned a lot making it, and I had so much fun with my storyline.
I spent lunch fighting off sleep by helping Vaness(a) color her comic, which she wasn't able to complete the night before. I felt really awful because when I saw what she had done already, my first thought was that my comic was better. So I tried to be as helpful a possible. I felt like a real jerk all during lunch, until Maria started cracking jokes about Mr L which were all extremely hilarious.
Well, that's it for the day, I suppose. I think I'm going to go to sleep... my head aches really bad, and I can practically feel my brain moving slower and slower. Au demain. ^^
