Encompassed
Apr. 15th, 2004 07:23 pm"No one understands."
What a load of tosh. I am sick of hearing people say this, reading this, and watching people just think this. There is a certain look that comes with the thought, you know -- a look that just screams, "I'm all alone in the world, pity me, but I don't want your pity!"
Riiight. As if no one on the planet has ever been through a situation similar to theirs! There are only so many things that can happen. Take a look at soap operas and movies: the plots all started repeating a long time ago, and there's never been anything new since that point in time. (I, personally, see Star Wars and Harry Potter in everything. It's the gift of any student of an advanced english program.)
Know that even though a person has never been in your position, they are not unable to help or unable have some glimmer of understanding of your problem, thought, or fear. Understanding doesn't always come in the form of mutual experience. I promise you, anyone and everyone out there, that someone has had feelings like yours, that someone knows or is capable of understanding what you are going through. There will never be complete understanding, but when has there ever been complete understanding?
You are not alone, and you never will be.
