New and Old
Aug. 26th, 2006 09:52 amI'm laying on my bed in my dorm room, my pillow propped up with an extra blanket, listening to Imogen Heap and Frou Frou. My bed is amazingly high, so most of my stuff is below me, and in the future my stuff might be joined by a mini fridge. My wall, on my right as I lay facing the door, is covered with pictures of friends from the last days of high school and a few from Europe. The shelf above me is decorated with framed photos from Europe, as well as two hat boxes that are currently storing innumerable odds and ends for me, the dears. My sister's smiling face greets me every morning from its position next to my alarm clock, and I am feeling pleasantly cool with the windows and door open while the fan blows away. We're completely free between breakfast and lunch today, so my roommate took a shower and is now getting ready for the rest of the day. She's pretty similar to me, I suppose, except a lot nicer—not that I've really ranted yet here, but it will happen eventually, I know, and everyone will finally know that I'm not nearly as nice once I know you as I am when I'm getting to know you.
One guy in my Opening Days (orientation) group knows this already, thank heavens. Michael is going to rise up and take over the school and eventually the world on the day 1000 candles are lit on this campus, which will presumably be the day Willamette's largest ever class is matriculated, as candle-lighting is part of the ceremony, and I will be his Assistant Vice Emperor. I know a friendship is going well if we've already discussed taking over the world. Obviously we've reached nowhere near the detail of my plan with Lawrence, but I'm sure that will come eventually. It's always good to have a back-up plan, right?
So while I'm not going to dances or ice cream socials, I'm having fun, and I've made a pretty good friend. I'd say that's a good two and a half days' work, wouldn't you?
