Hey Johnny, what's it gonna be?

I remember when I was young, maybe nine or ten, having a rockish pop culture moment of realization. My best friend was talking about how her kid sister had gotten her first bottle of deodorant, and showed it to me. My first reaction was to say, "Smells like Teen Spirit!"

Good times, good times.

It was pointed out to me today that Halloween will once again fall on a Sunday. I say 'once again' because it happened when I was seven or eight. I guess six or seven years isn't the space of time that 'once again' usually suggests, but Halloween on a Sunday was so traumatizing to me that I remember it perfectly. We didn't decorate except for fake cobwebs on the cherry trees next to our driveway, and we stayed in all night with the lights off (so trick-or-treaters would stay away) watching Christmas movies. It was terrible. I only got a little bit of candy in my Target shopping bag from the Trunk-or-Treat which my Church held the Friday before Halloween, and it was gone before Monday.

How depressing.
